It was formed in 1981 with the name Asociación Española de Bioingeniería (A.E.B., Spanish Society for Bionegineering), and the name was lately changed in 1995 by the current SEIB, following the international trends. Since its creation, society has had six presidents (G. Ferraté, F. Fernández, J.L. Monteagudo, J.M. Ferrero L. Roa and R. Jané).

Its main objective is to promote and foster the contact amongst companies, professional, researchers and students working in any field in Biomedical Engineering.
